Research interests:
1. Anaerobic fermentation technology (kinetics, scale-up, design, optimization of reactors) for productive and environmental objectives.
2. Tertiary and advanced wastewater treatment (understanding of microbial communities, unit operation optimization and water recovery/reuse).
3. Development of on-line methods for continuous monitoring of key operating parameters in wastewater treatment plants (toxicity, BOD, SVI, OUR).
4. Use of wastes or low-cost raw materials for energy recovery.
5. Bioconversion by the use of immobilized microorganisms for enantioselective syntheses of optically pure antipodes (chiral syntheses).
