Educational Background: He graduated in 1976 from the Department of Natural Sciences, School of Physics and Mathematics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He received his Master of Science in Mineralogy and Petrologyfrom the University of Uppsala, Sweden in 1981. He received his Ph.D. in 1997 from the Democritus University of Thrace, working on the analysis of aquifer system in the heterogeneous and coastal plain of Rhodope Municipality, Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering, D.U.Th.

Short Description-Major ResearchInterests: Field and theoretical aspects of water resources management and water policy in porous and karstic media, modeling of flow and contaminant transport in groundwater systems, seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers, management and development of water resources in coastal aquifers, interactions between surface and groundwater, and optimal development of groundwater (optimization models).

Academic Experience: Since 2001, he is teaching 4 graduate and postgraduate courses on Environmental Geology, Hydrogeology, Water Resources Management, Operations Research and Integrated Water Resources Management.
He is author (or co-author) of 70 research papers published in international scientific journals and in proceedings of scientific conferences, with more than 500 citations. He is the author of 3 textbooks published by Democritus University of Thrace.
He participated in more than 31 research projects, as main researcher or consultant. Most of the above projects are related to saline water intrusion in aquifers, groundwater systems simulation and management, environmentalstudies, environmentalimpactsoflargeconstructionworks, and artificial recharge of groundwater.
