CURSECONTENTS:

Introduction to GIS: basic principles of  digital mapping. Types of spatial data: vector and raster format. Spatial databases. Working at various scales. Scales of data capturing. Generalization. Data capturing through maps. Remote sensing data. The Global Positioning System (GPS). Methods of georeferencing. Working with layers of spatial information. Topology: geographical objects and their relations. Descriptive properties of spatial objects. Geocoding. Information retrieval: thematic maps, visibility analysis, spatial querying. Network analysis: car navigation, travel time analysis, routing. Mobile GIS: Location Based Services (LBS). Custom GIS applicartions: flooding risk, emergency services, real estate applications, environmental protection, commercial and web GIS applications, OpenStreetMap and GoogleEarth databases. Multicriteria decision making: raster layer preparation, analysis of variables - case study application.
